CAP Prize | The Prize
The CAP Prize, the International Prize for Contemporary African Photography is awarded annually to five outstanding photogrpahers. The CAP Prize is directed at photographers whose work engages with the African continent and/or its diaspora.
Initiated by Benjamin Füglister in 2012, the prize consists of global exposure at major international photography exhibitions such as at the IAF Basel - Festival for Contemporary Art in Basel, Switzerland. In previous years the CAP Prize winners exhibition was on show at LagosPhoto Festival in Nigeria, at FIFCV Festival Internacional de Fotografia de Cabo Verde, Eyes On – European Month of Photography in Vienna, Austria or at the Bamako Encounters in Bamako, Mali, just to name a few. The five CAP Prize winners are annually invited to the main exhibition at the IAF Basel - Festival for Contemporary Art and spend one week in Basel. The laureates are invited to join the Edition POPCAP, an edition of limited fine art prints of the awarded series. A catalog documenting the five winners works is published in time for the award ceremony.
In a nutshell: CAP Prize raises the winners' international exposure and builds a high level network for future projects.
